Solicitation Permits

It shall be unlawful for any person to canvass, solicit, or peddle upon any private property in the Village where the owner, occupant, or person legally in charge of the premises has posted at the entry to the premises, or at the entry to the principal building on the premises, a sign bearing the words "No Peddlers," "No Solicitors," “No Canvassers”,  “Peddlers , Solicitors or Canvassers Prohibited” or similar words.

Do you need a Permit? 

  • Canvasser—No 
  • Peddler and Solicitor—Yes 

Canvasser means any person whose primary purpose is attempting to enlist support for or against a particular religion, philosophy, ideology, political party, issue, or candidate. Examples include:  political campaigns, churches. 

Peddler means any person who is carrying or transporting goods, wares, merchandise, or personal property of any nature and offering the same for sale.  Examples include: Food and Supply Vendors. 

Solicitor means any person who goes upon the premises of a private residence, without invitation, for the purpose of taking or attempting to take orders for the sale of goods, merchandise, wares, or other personal property of any nature for future delivery, or for services to be performed in the future. Examples include: roofing contractor, pest control,  magazine sales, energy companies, cable/internet providers.

Permit Display:
Every person shall display the permit at all times and produce the permit when requested to do so by any prospective customer or police department employee.

Permit Restrictions

  • No more than 5 consecutive days.
  • Limit 4 permits per year for the same organization.
  • No more than 4 permits shall be valid at any given time/concurrently.

Permitted Hours: 

  • Monday-Friday: 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Sunday: Not Permitted

Application Requirements

  • Application must be submitted in person at: Inverness Police Department
  • All applicants must provide evidence that they are authorized to solicit for the organization represented. 
  • Fee payment
  • At the time of application, all applicants must be fingerprinted at the Inverness Police Department. The applicant will have a background check conducted by the Inverness Police Department. 
  • All applicants must submit two passport-sized photographs of the applicant. The photographs shall show the head and shoulders of the applicant in a clear and distinguishing manner.
