The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.) is a state law that provides the public with the right to access government records. It is the policy of the Village of Inverness to comply fully with FOIA and to respond to all requests for public records in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable law.
Requests for inspection or copies of public records shall be made in writing and directed to the Village. Written FOIA requests may be submitted by personal delivery or by mail. FOIA requests submitted by email (electronic means) must appear in their entirety within the body of the email and may not include attachments or hyperlinks.
When seeking records, please be as specific as possible, including the property address (if applicable), relevant dates or timeframes, and the type of records being requested.
For your convenience, the Village provides a Freedom of Information Request Form, which is available below or by contacting Village Hall. Use of this form is optional and not required to submit a valid FOIA request.

Each request will be complied with or denied within five (5) business days after its receipt. The five (5) business day limit may be extended to include an additional five (5) business days in some cases. Each request for a commercial purpose will be complied with or denied within twenty-one (21) days after its receipt. Accordingly, if your request is for a commercial purpose, please indicate that it is for a commercial purpose. Records will be made available for inspection and reproduction unless the records are exempt from disclosure under FOIA.

Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 4:30 pm are when Village offices are open. Saturdays, Sundays, State and holidays are not business days and will not be counted in the five (5) business day period.
